UK ITS manufacturer 559 AGD Systems says its 343 Highways Monitoring Radar provides real-time data on multiple lanes and improves highway safety. The product was showcased at the UK’s Traffex Seeing is Believing conference in Leicestershire.

The radar collects traffic flow data on the network and replaces loop technology to monitor lanes on inter-urban routes.

Ian Hind, commercial director at AGD Systems, says the solution employs enforcement-grade radar and measurement techniques to quantify speed, range and length of passing vehicles.

“The radar allows instant decision-making in determining whether traffic is free-moving, slowing or starting to queue,” Hind adds.

The safety benefits of C/AVs have long been promoted – but research suggests they should also contribute to cheaper roads. David Crawford investigates the potential benefits in infrastructure costs Building narrower freeway lanes to accommodate the enhanced route-tracking capabilities of connected and autonomous vehicles (C/AVs), running in platoon conditions, could result in cost savings of £0.5 million (€0.56 million or US$6.5 million) for every km of road length built. Such benefits could be secur

AGD Systems has a strategic new partnership with Qatar-based Traffic Tech Group to introduce its award-winning pedestrian detection solutions in the Middle East. Traffic Tech Group will be AGD’s exclusive global distributor for Puffin and Toucan pedestrian crossings in the region to increase pedestrian and cyclist safety and improve traffic flows. On-street trials of AGD-enabled Puffin and Toucan schemes commenced in November 2014 at a dual pedestrian crossing on the busy Al-Jazeera Al-Arabiya Road in Doha,

The more strident proponents of newer and emergent detection technologies are quick to highlight what they see as the disadvantages, and hence the imminent passing, of the humble inductive loop. The more prosaic will acknowledge that loops continue to have a part to play in traffic management, falling back on the assertion that it is all a question of application. And yet year after year the loop, despite
  • AGD Systems acquires manufacturer of cone tactile equipment
    March 15, 2019
ITS manufacturer AGD Systems has acquired Radix Traffic, a UK manufacturer of rotating cone tactile equipment to assist visually impaired pedestrians at signalled crossings. AGD says the Radix tactile indicator allows a blind or partially-sighted person to hold a cone which protrudes from the signal. When it is safe to cross, the cone starts rotating as the green man appears. Brian Cherry will serve as a director of the Radix division of AGD Systems to assist in the transition of the company’s produ
