Traffic management specialist 73 Iteris has joined forces with Tightrope Media Systems with to bring real-time traffic information to Community TV channels serving southern California communities.

BlueCommute is a software-defined program is based on Iteris’ broad range of intelligent transportation system (ITS) solutions, providing commuters with an up-to-the-minute display of travel conditions across local routes.  The BlueCommute platform delivers that information to viewers as a rich media experience, offering a mix of dynamic video, graphics and text that continuously updates.

To achieve its goals of cost-efficiently providing a free TV service, Iteris is working with Tightrope to move communities to a simpler, low-cost architecture, beginning with several cities in Los Angeles County.  In the process, viewers who follow Community TV broadcasts can monitor the latest information on traffic congestion, road construction, highway incidents, and special events.

Tightrope powers a large number of Community TV stations’ programming in the United States, using its Carousel digital signage system for on-air graphics. The end-to-end workflow connects Iteris’ real-time media feeds at the backbone of BlueCommute to Carousel servers at these Community TV facilities.

“Tightrope’s Carousel solution is attractive because it offers a variety of ways to use content,” said Alan Clelland, vice president, Transportation Systems at Iteris.  That ability offers exceptional freedom and flexibility for the broadcaster.”

Commented Steve Israelsky, VP Broadcast Solutions at Tightrope Media Systems: “Our existing footprint across Community TV stations in the United States makes our partnership with Iteris ripe for expansion into new communities across the country.  There is a real opportunity here to drive audience and create unique programming for Community TV stations nationwide.”
