Thales releases 'autonomous-ready' CBTC  

SelTrac G8 has new digital architecture to minimise amount of trackside equipment

Thales has released a new SelTrac G8 Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) system with features that allow public transport operators to manage network growth and fleet expansions. 

Thales says SelTrac G8 has a new digital architecture with flexible options designed to minimise the amount of trackside equipment required.

According to Thales, G8 provides investment protection by enabling future technology insertion for performance upgrades of obsolescence management. 

Service capabilities include health monitoring features for faster response capability and increased resiliency to failure with greater visibility of hardware and software enhancements to extend the system life with no interruption to operations. 

Thales describes the platform as “autonomous-ready”, with one capability designed to make greenfield and brownfield CBTC deployments faster and easier, with rapid train conversion and minimal trackside equipment. 

Alcino de Sousa, managing director, Thales’s urban rail signalling, says: “With this new generation of the SelTracTM system, Thales is supporting the digital transformation of urban rail operators by delivering an innovative solution that includes the latest technologies and paves the way for the autonomous train operations of the next 30 years and beyond."
