846 RuggedCom has introduced the RuggedBackbone RX5000, a new high port density routing and switching platform designed to operate in harsh environments. The device can withstand high levels of electromagnetic interference, radio frequency interference and a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

The product is a scalable, hot-swappable, modular platform which provides its users with the ability to make product modifications as their network grows or their needs change. RuggedCom says the cyber security and networking features make it suitable for creating secure Ethernet networks for mission-critical, real-time control applications.

The new RuggedBackbone RX5000 product line features the following: substation hardened switch with hot-swappable modules; redundant hot-swappable power supplies; highest port density (up to 96-10/100BaseTX or 48-100BaseFX ports per switch); Layer 2 / Layer 3 switching; improved scalability, security and resiliency; telecom-standard user interface; meets or exceeds IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards; a wide variety of interfaces (Ethernet copper and fibre, serial, T1/E1, T3/E3, wireless, and more).
