97 Moxa has announced the EDS¬G308, a full Gigabit unmanaged Ethernet switch. The device is equipped with eight Gigabit Ethernet ports with up to two selectable fiber optic 100/1000M SFP modules for the highest level of data transmission. The EDS-G308 series provides industrial grade features needed to withstand adverse conditions, including -40 to 75°C operating range, redundant dual 12/24/48 VDC, 18 to 30 VAC inputs, and rugged fibre optic support. The Ethernet switches have the optimum balance of speed, cost and long-term reliability, making it easy for users to upgrade highly demanding networks to full Gigabit speed, but without eliminating your existing 10/100M Ethernet networks.

The EDS-G308 comes with an innovative power-saving design that cuts power consumption by up to has been developed for remotely monitoring and controlling multi¬62 per cent. The power-saving design works by automatically detecting the link status, and reducing the power usage of ports that are idle.

As Moxa points out, Gigabit Ethernet backbones have emerged as the preferred high-speed network solution for demanding applications, such as traffic surveillance, that require high¬bandwidth networks. The company offers a wide range of Gigabit¬enabled Ethernet switches that can be used to build a Gigabit backbone that connects video¬over-IP equipment, Ethernet enabled devices, or other Ethernet switches to the control centre.

Moxa has equipped Taiwan’s Hsuehshan Tunnel with its NPort 5230 device servers and EDS-508A-SS-SC Ethernet switches as part of the tunnel emergency traffic control system. The tunnel is south east Asia’s second longest road tunnel consisting of one pilot tunnel, one west-bound tunnel, and one east-bound tunnel stretching 12.9km through Hsuehshan Mountain. Emergencies occurring inside tunnels of this length can be disastrous, especially a fire-related incident. To minimise casualties during an emergency, a t

    February 1, 2012
As IP-based technology makes its presence felt in the control room sector, it makes for greater economies of scale and also offers a migration path for many other traffic management technologies. So says Barco's Guy Van Wijmeersch. Efficient control room collaboration and decision-making is only possible if operators and decision-makers have easy and timely access to information. In many cases, that information also needs to be accessible to multiple users at the same time. This is certainly so in the case
