ComNet extends Wiegand distances

Communication Networks (ComNet) is introducing a fibre-optic distance extending interface that allows optical connectivity between one card reader and its associated door or gate locking hardware, and any Wiegand, Magstripe, or F/2F-based control panel. The ComNet FDW1000 transmits Wiegand data optically over multimode or single-mode fibre at distances up to 3.5km or 40km respectively.

Communication Networks (30 ComNet) is introducing a fibre-optic distance extending interface that allows optical connectivity between one card reader and its associated door or gate locking hardware, and any Wiegand, Magstripe, or F/2F-based control panel.

The ComNet FDW1000 transmits Wiegand data optically over multimode or single-mode fibre at distances up to 3.5km or 40km respectively. The company is also introducing a unique expansion module that allows up to seven additional card readers be integrated on to the fibre-optic network. These new models are designed to prevent tampering and provide safe and secure operation.

Pete Goldin reports on a new wireless, solar-powered traffic detection system being used by Caltrans District 12. As more and more traffic data is necessary to satisfy the needs of traffic management centres and traveller information systems, and as traffic detection technology becomes more ubiquitous, transportation authorities are pressured to find more economical ways of expanding their detection systems. Caltrans District 12 is leading this push by deploying the latest detection system from Case Global

    February 1, 2012
Unbroken service Technolution's Winifred Roggekamp and Dave Marples describe efforts to upgrade the Westerscheldetunnel's tolling system to give free-flow capability. Until 2003 the Flanders region of Zeeland, in the south-west of the Netherlands, was connected to the mainland only by ferry. The new Westerscheldetunnel, a 6.6km toll tunnel, improves communications with the region considerably, taking some 100km off the alternative road journey. In 2006 it was recognised that the toll plaza for the tunnel ne
