Delivering resilience to the transport sector will be at the heart of discussions in next week's Virtual ITS European Congress, on 9-10 November.

On Monday morning the online conference will hear from speakers from the European Commission, T-Systems, Dynniq Mobility and Hamburg's Ministry of Economy, Transport and Innovation, discussing how to make mobility more resilient in the face of ongoing pandemic threats and other major events.

"Collapse of the mobility system would result in a  collapse of the economy and the way we live," says Ertico.

"The faster, we can ‘jump back’ or ‘keep on going’ the less hit our economies and our societies will be."

Traffic management, data exchange and freight digitalisation are among the areas "in which specific measures can be implemented to ensure a level of flexibility that will allow the transport system to handle unforeseen changes and accommodate disruption, adapting its services and operations to ensure its continuous efficient performance".

The role of 5G and satellite communication in the deployment of essential ITS services will be considered, as will the use of drones in urban mobility.

There will also be an update on the European Data Task Force's 12-month proof of concept in Eindhoven to improve road safety by sharing information  generated by vehicles and infrastructure between public authorities , service providers and vehicle manufacturers.
