Iteris has received $3.15m from the US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as part of a deal to make US roads ready for connected and autonomous vehicles (C/AVs).

The additional money comes under Iteris' indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (Idiq) contract with FHWA to support the Architecture Reference for Cooperative and Intelligent Transportation (ARC-IT).

The funding is being added to an existing three-year task order agreement initiated last November, which Iteris says is worth up to $19.5m.

The company's role is to support statewide and regional ITS planning and deployment to encourage interoperability and C/AV preparedness through workshops, training and technical assistance.

The programme also takes in international coordination of ITS architecture and standards, concepts and approaches.
