Sensys Networks’ SNAPS software is the basis of the new cloud-hosted Smart City service which offers high levels of precise, high-resolution, 24/7 data for signal optimisation, congestion mitigation and performance reporting.

The system provides an integrated solution combining wireless sensor networks for high-resolution traffic data collection, secure communication over the Verizon network and secure hosting on the Verizon cloud.

With over 300,000 signalised intersections in the US, Verizon’s Intelligent Traffic Management Service aims to transform how public agencies obtain and utilise data to improve traffic flow on their arterial and reduce delay, greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption. The solution offers a wide range of cloud-based applications to help agencies understand their underperforming corridors and improve throughput in a quantifiable manner.

Leveraging SNAPS analytic tools, agencies get access to a new level of high-resolution performance measures including turn movements, volume-to-capacity ratios, traffic signal coordination effectiveness, vehicle miles travelled and much more. These performance measures enable agencies to optimize their signal performance, from isolated intersections to multiple corridors.

The Intelligent Traffic Management Service will be delivered via Software as a Service (SaaS), said to be a first for the intelligent transportation systems (ITS) industry in the US This approach alleviates the complexities, time and cost for agencies to procure and maintain their own equipment.

“We believe Software as a Service allows agencies to focus on customer service rather than procuring, installing and maintaining disparate equipment from multiple vendors,” says Amine Haoui, CEO of Sensys Networks. “This model greatly reduces inefficiencies that are the by-product of a complex procurement model, while delivering the most actionable data in the history of ITS.”

Sensys Networks is here at ITS America Detroit to highlight solutions to address intersection safety - 40% of crashes, 50% of serious collisions, and 20% of fatalities occur in intersections. Unfortunately, many cities currently rely solely on historical crash data, hardly a systematic way to analyse and manage potentially harmful traffic situations. To help increase intersection safety, Sensys Networks is automating accurate and actionable safety data, and teaming with Verizon to do so. SensTraffic, the
