Here Technologies has integrated location technology What3words into Jaguar Land Rover vehicles which are already on the road via a software-over-the-air (SOTA) update.

What3words has given every 3m x 3m square in the world an address which consists of three random words - and drivers will be able to access the system without having a data connection.

Once updated, drivers can input What3words addresses into the navigation bar on the Pivi Pro Infotainment system.

Earlier this year, Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles had another SOTA upgrade which gave them access to Amazon Alexa.

While in-vehicle assistance and entertainment is popular with drivers, safety concerns about lack of regulation and the potential for distraction on the road have been raised by observers including TRL.

Mark Carter, navigation product owner, digital product platform at Jaguar Land Rover, insists the What3words technology "is all about simplification", allowing drivers to "find their way anywhere in the world without having to worry about connectivity".

Chris Sheldrick, co-founder and CEO of What3words, said the OEM had "recognised the benefits" of the tech.
