The company says the Video Viewer app’s live feed enables transportation agencies to access data and insights that were previously only available from their transportation management centre.

The app provides a live video of individual approaches in a variety of matrixed views while also allowing users to view and export data on vehicle volumes and diagnostic status, the company adds.

Cliff Nash, traffic signal technician at the City of Jonesboro, says: “The Iteris Video Viewer is proving to be a significant time saver for our traffic engineers, technicians and TMC staff, who can now access real-time video feeds direct from our city’s intersections even when they are out in the field.”

Video Viewer is available on iOS and Android devices as well as the Iteris website.

For some, machine vision is the coming technology. For others, it’s already here. Although it remains a relative newcomer to the ITS sector, its effects look set to be profound and far-reaching. Encapsulating in just a few short words the distinguishing features of complex technologies and their operating concepts can sometimes be difficult. Often, it is the most subtle of nuances which are both the most important and yet also the most easily lost. Happily, in the case of machine vision this isn’t the case:

Major tunnel disasters over the last decade and more have shown how swiftly and badly a simple crash or fire may evolve should the wrong actions be taken by control room operators or traffic managers. Global safety issues and the reactions of operations staff have now become the principal concerns for Operations and Maintenance (O&M) service providers. As a result, n
