Introducing the IRD SAW III portable dynamic scale system

International Road Dynamics’ (IRD) durable IRD SAW III portable wheel load weigher is now available for dynamic weighing; its user-friendly software enables users to efficiently pre-select overloaded trucks. 69 International Road Dynamics’ (IRD) durable IRD SAW III portable wheel load weigher is now available for dynamic weighing; its user-friendly software enables users to efficiently pre-select overloaded trucks.

Two IRD SAW scales are paired and connected to a PC via Bluetooth. When a vehicle drives over the scales at slow speed, the weighing result, wheel/axle weights and gross vehicle weight, is displayed on the screen. For weight enforcement with the highest accuracy the system can be switched to static operation mode. Computer-0based processing provides reporting, ticket printing and ticket archiving.

The system enables high vehicle throughput, especially when using two sets of IRD SAW scales, one set in dynamic mode for pre-selection and one in static mode for weight enforcement.

The low profile unit is designed to meet OIML R134 and it lightweight, rugged and corrosion resistant and suitable for twin tyre weighing.

The Czech Metrology Institute (CMI) has approved a Weigh in Motion (WiM) system from Kistler to help prevent road damage from trucks. Kistler, a measurement technology company, says its KiTraffic system is being used to track and fine overloaded trucks on the D7 Highway from Prague to the north-west of the country. KiTraffic is comprised of Lineas brand quartz sensors integrated into the road, cameras, hardware and software. If a truck exceeds the weight limit, the system sends the weight and a photograph

Weigh in motion reduces road wear, increases toll revenue
IRD, Inc's Terry Bergan discusses future applications of weigh in motion technology. The application in recent years of Weigh In Motion (WIM) at tollgates has been driven by recognition of the fact that there is economic value, which can be levied, attached to Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) which haul laden (and are therefore heavy) rather than empty. As wear and damage to road surfaces increases exponentially with weight, the targeting of HGVs in particular makes sense from both the economic and maintenance p
