RSS5237 Samsung Techwin America, a leading supplier of advanced video surveillance solutions, has introduced an outdoor 3-megapixel network video surveillance camera with an IR range of 30 metres in total darkness. The SNO-7080R, complete with a 2.8X varifocal motorised zoom lens, can capture 16:9 full HD images at 1920 x 1080p with wide dynamic range (WDR) and features a dual H.264 and MPEG codec. It is IP66 environmentally rated for severe or varying weather conditions and can be powered via PoE and 24V AC.

The SNO-7080R uses Samsung’s WiseNet2 DSP chipset, designed to provide maximum benefit for megapixel technology, including Wide Dynamic Range and Smart Compression with region-of-interest (ROI) encoding. H.264 compression ensures bandwidth-friendly, high-resolution images, and the H.264/MJPEG dual codec supplies multiple streaming.

The camera offers several resolution options, including CIF (320 x 240 pixels), 1080p full HD (1,920 x 1080 pixels), and full 3-megapixel (2,048 x 1,536 pixels) with the ability to transmit up to six profiles for viewing and recording.

The ONVIF-compliant camera also features backlight compensation, SSNRIII (2D+3D) digital noise reduction, motion detection, privacy, SSDR for contrast enhancement and auto day/ night (ICR). The 3 – 8.5 mm (2.8x) motorised varifocal lens allows remotely adjustable zoom and focus settings.

Sony’s Arnaud Destruels explains the benefits of CMOS sensors for ITS applications. In the transport sector roadside, trackside and platform cameras were devices for viewing and assessing a situation while individual sensors did all the clever stuff like traffic counting, speed calculation, queue lengths, signal status and so on. Well, not any more.
