The DeepBlue sensor range from US-based 6626 Image Sensing Systems offers a simple to deploy solution for traffic monitoring.

Suitable for obtaining online travel time information and origin/destination information for improved infrastructure planning, the auto-configured, easy-to-install, side-fire sensor detects the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals from vehicles including hands-free sets, mobile phones and navigation systems.

The sensors have specially designed antennas for extreme sensitivity, longer range and faster scanning for enhanced detection of fast moving vehicles in up to 12 lanes of traffic and can be installed on existing roadside poles.

Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions has launched a retrofit plug-in sensor device which aims to deliver precise event data such as driving behaviour and crash detection for telematics, fleet management and insurance applications. Called the Telematics eCall Plug (TEP), it registers car crash severity and is said to enable faster emergency response times. Additionally, the data can also help to improve safety and allow more personalized behaviour-based insurance, by rewarding safe drivers with discounts

Caldecott Tunnel’s new Fourth Bore is utilising a bespoke high-capacity monitoring and communications network from Moxa. The Caldecott Tunnel connects Contra Costa and Alameda counties in Northern California and traditionally it has suffered severe congestion - especially during peak hours. Opened in 1937 as a twin-bore arrangement, by 1964 the increase in traffic volumes led to a third bore being added. Shortly after the third bore was opened a tidal flow was introduced with the centre bore alternating in

Flir Systems is taking advantage of the Innotrans 2016 exhibition in Berlin, Germany, 20-23 September, to launch the Flir RSX-F intelligent sensor for advanced fire detection inside rail coaches. The sensor uses the Flir Lepton thermal sensor and high-definition visual imaging for fire and occupancy detection as well as CCTV monitoring. The Flir RSX-F uses a thermal sensor with on-board fire detection algorithms to detect a fire faster and more accurately than conventional methods. It detects thermal
