Imaging Development Systems (IDS) has launched four new cameras: two USB 3.0 industrial cameras for traffic monitoring (ITS) and the others for machine vision applications.

The UI-3880CP industrial camera features the IMX178 1/1.8" rolling shutter CMOS sensor offers 6.4MP (3088 x 2076) while the UI-3860CP model has Sony’s IMX290 1/3" rolling shutter 2.1 MP (1936 x 1096) CMOS sensor offering full HD 120fps and is said to be a good choice for cost-effective applications.

Designed for machine vision applications, the other two cameras also offer full HD with a resolution of 3.2 MP (2056 x 1542) and will be available as colour or monochrome version. The UI-3070CP model utilises the IMX252 sensor, while the UI-3270CP camera uses the IMX265 sensor and both are said to provide excellent values, image quality and dynamic range.

Many ITS and video surveillance systems are now migrating to High Definition (HD), something which has traditionally required high-resolution IP cameras and a complete system architecture overhaul. Euresys now provides a less expensive and seamless upgrade path with the Picolo.net HD4. “This allows users to connect four HD-SDI/HDcctv cameras through at least 100m of coaxial cable to a video surveillance IP network. It’s easy to integrate into video surveillance systems as it features an ONVIF Profile S-comp

A vast array of new products and systems for aiding road safety were displayed at the ITS World Congress in October. David Crawford assesses a selection of safety initiatives exhibited in Orlando. Vital roles for ITS applications in road traffic safety emerge clearly from a new report from the US Transportation Safety Advancement Group. The report has been carried out for the Next Generation 911 What's Next Forum, which is preparing the way for future development of the US national 911 emergency single call

The continuing, favourable performance-versus-cost situation concerning detection and monitoring technologies is driving the proliferation of intelligence across road networks. The effective and safe management of intersections is a focus for network operators and systems manufacturers alike. The most complicated of road environments, and statistically among the least safe, intersections enjoy particular emphasis in longer-term work on cooperative infrastructure solutions. However there are current developm
