558 AMG Systems has launched 90W Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches aimed at assisting demanding video surveillance applications. PoE is intended to allow power and data to pass over twisted pair Ethernet cabling.

The company says that Ethernet cables help to remove the costs associated with hiring electrical installers and allow powered devices to be deployed at almost any location with an Ethernet presentation. The low voltage, according to AMG, helps to lower the risk of electrical hazards.

The company’s portfolio now includes 15W, 30W, 60W and 90W managed, unmanaged and semi-managed industrial Ethernet media converters and switches.

Temporary CCTV poses more challenges than permanent installations
Long-term roadworks pose particular problems for temporary surveillance installations. Converting the hard shoulder to a running lane, either full- or part-time, is the UK Highways Agency’s solution to ease motorway congestion. This is leading to a number of long-term projects where large stretches of the hard shoulder are closed off by temporary concrete barriers and during these roadwork programmes, temporary CCTV cameras are deployed to monitor and record vehicle traffic and workers.
