518 Allied Vision Technologies has extended its Prosilica GT large format camera range with a new electro-focus (EF) lens control which is said to provide a ruggedised all-in-one lens control solution. The new mount simplifies lens control via GenICam feature access (negating the need for serial commands) and enabling the camera  to automatically focus sequentially on subjects in different distances.

Power to control EF-mount lenses can be provided via PoE (Power over Ethernet) and an improved mechanical design enables planarity adjustment towards the sensor.

As part of a growing effort to use technology to manage traffic on roads and highways without building more roads, for the last six months Florida’s Palm Beach County has been using Bluetooth readers to determine how long it takes motorists to travel along its corridors. "We're adding more capacity through technology rather than asphalt," said Dan Weisberg, Palm Beach County's traffic engineer. "We can't build ourselves out of congestion. We need to be smarter about what we have and manage it." In collabor

To complement its existing WIM offering, IRD has introduced a system to detect under-inflated and flat tyres at highway speeds. Tyre inflation pressure has both safety and economic impacts for road users and none more so than with commercial vehicles. An underinflated tyre has decreased directional control, increased risk of catastrophic failure, and negatively impacts tyre life and fuel economy.
