TrafiOne helps Qatar World Cup VRUs

Pedestrians will be given priority after roll-out of Teledyne Flir sensors in Gulf emirate

A million football fans are expected to visit Qatar for Fifa World Cup 2022

The government of Qatar has installed 700 Flir TrafiOne sensors to monitor traffic and control crowd flow during the Fifa World Cup 2022.

The soccer tournament began yesterday and continues until 18 December, and around a million football fans are expected to visit the Gulf emirate during that time.

TrafiOne uses WiFi and thermal technologies to identify pedestrian movement on the pavement and automatically adjust traffic signal timing.

This means, for example, that pedestrians can be prioritised ahead of vehicle traffic, promoting safer, more effective pedestrian crossings.

Thermal cameras with video analytics detect and classify pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles even in complete darkness or adverse weather conditions.

Touch-free sensors eliminate the need for physical push buttons - something that may appeal to users as the world emerges from the Covid pandemic.

Teledyne says TrafiOne also generates high-resolution data for measuring travel times to improve traffic flows, reduce vehicle idling times, monitor congestion and enhance safety for vulnerable road users.

Data is accessible for further processing by the Flir ITS-IQ, a cloud-based data analysis solution.
