Innoviz Technologies and 1809 Samsung Electronics subsidiary 6328 Harman International have teamed up to offer LiDAR solutions to car manufacturers.

The companies – Innoviz the manufacturer and Harman the supplier – say their partnership will support the “unstoppable move towards semi- to fully-autonomous vehicles (AVs)”.

Last year, Innoviz signed a serial production agreement with 1731 BMW.

InnovizOne is a solid-state LiDAR sensor designed specifically for automotive deployments, with an emphasis on what the companies call “automakers' mass-production needs”.

The sensors create dense 3D point clouds, and software enables object detection, classification and tracking at long distances, the firms say.

The companies insist Innoviz's LiDAR “will enhance Harman's existing ADAS and automated driving initiatives, helping deliver superior driver assist features today and Levels 3-5 automation tomorrow”.

Mike Peters, president, connected car, at Harman says the partnership will help meet manufacturers’ “ambitious goals of AVs in the next few years”.
