Lyt's cloud-based smart traffic solutions are being used by Parametrix to deliver smart technology solutions for more liveable communities.

The company says its traffic management platform Lyt.speed works with existing infrastructure and algorithms to efficiently manage traffic flow in the cloud.

The platform comprises Lyt.emergency, which offers emergency vehicle preemption, and a transit signal priority solution called Lyt.transit.

Lyt.emergency and Lyt.transit are expected to produce a consistent and reliable green light for every transit or emergency vehicle.

According to Lyt, these solutions harness the power of a single edge device installed in traffic management centres that enable transit vehicles to speak directly to networked traffic signals in cities through the Lyt cloud platform.

Hicham Chatila, national director of smart and liveable communities at Parametrix, says: “Through our strategic partnership with Lyt, we will provide unique solutions to improve traffic flows and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our communities.”

Lyt CEO Timothy Menard says: “Together, we’re looking forward to delivering a safer and more efficient environment to cities, communities and individuals as part of their everyday experiences on the road.”

Traffic can be a really big challenge. When you’re stuck, you’re stuck. Everything comes to a standstill. But Alexander Lewald describes how existing infrastructures can be used more efficiently and how demand can be managed. A few figures to start with: in Los Angeles, the average driver spends 102 hours a year in traffic – that’s more than four days. This figure is 91 hours in Moscow and New York, 74 in London, 69 in Paris, 51 hours in Munich and still 40 hours in Vienna. Traffic is what causes

Jason Barnes examines the trend towards single source supply of complete tolling and traffic management solutions with some senior tolling industry figures. Only a few years back, the major tolling system suppliers were aggressively positioning themselves as one-stop shops for tolling solutions and operations. No sooner has that little flurry of innovation settled than another trend has emerged – tolling companies wanting to become major ITS suppliers as well. Various tolling company seniors have in recent
