The self-driving, all-electric passenger vehicles will be on public roads by the end of 2023

Autonomous vehicle (AV) software specialist Oxbotica and mobility firm Nevs have signed a partnership to develop a fleet of self-driving, all-electric passenger vehicles for public roads by the end of 2023.

The Oxbotica Driver full-stack autonomy system will be integrated with the Swedish company's Sango passenger-share vehicle, which has six movable seats either arranged in 'social mode' or with privacy walls which create four smaller areas for shared, private journeys.

Nevs also has a fleet management system and an app as the user interface.

Next year the first fleet will be deployed on geo-fenced public roads, followed by "multiple projects in Europe in 2024" and an international roll-out "from 2025 onwards".

Gavin Jackson, CEO of Oxbotica, said it would create "an urban mobility service that will make roads safer, cleaner, and less congested and provide customers with a new way to travel".

He added that this would "truly change how the Earth moves".

Nevs president Stefan Tilk says: "Through this partnership we will be able to deploy pilots and commercial fleets - ensuring a breakthrough in the movement of people in a green safe and smart way, paving the way for sustainable cities.”
