Swarco has acquired one of its long-term business partners in Ireland.

The Austrian traffic technology corporation has acquired 100% of the shares in the Irish family-owned firm Elmore Group.

The companies have worked together over several decades in the fields of LED traffic lights and traffic control.

Swarco CEO Michael Schuch thanked the Elmore family "for their confidence in entrusting their life’s work to Swarco".

Based in Dublin, Elmore specialises in the supply, integration and maintenance of a range of solutions for the traffic and transportation management sector, and offers a nationwide installation and maintenance service across a full range of ITS solutions for local authorities and major building contractors.

“The acquisition will expand Swarco’s footprint in ITS in the Republic of Ireland through a well-established player founded by Seamus Elmore already in 1965”, says John Pickworth, Swarco’s ITS head of region UK & Ireland.

The deal would "further cement and grow our position as an ITS solution and services leader in the region", he says.

Swarco will now "be able to deliver turnkey ITS solutions and services, building on the foundation of our established business in Ireland with key customers, including Dublin City Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and strengthening our portfolio".

“Following a culmination of 36 successful years partnership with Swarco, this acquisition is the most obvious and logical choice for moving forward," says Mark Elmore. "We are excited to continue to the next phase of our business under the umbrella of Swarco and together look forward to providing an even greater level of service to all our customers in the ITS industry.”

Separately, Swarco UK & Ireland has been awarded a new long-term service and maintenance contract for traffic signals and signage covering Bedford Borough Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Central Bedfordshire Council, Luton Council and Peterborough City Council.
