The Leddar One sensing module from Canadian LED-based detection technology supplier, 84 LeddarTech, is a more compact (50mm diameter) and low-cost alternative that the company claims brings valuable sensing intelligence to a whole new range of finished products.

Its focused, conic beam is said to offer excellent overall range and performance, adaptability, easy integration, low power consumption and high accuracy. The single-element sensing module is particularly suitable for applications such as level sensing, security and surveillance and proximity detection

Leddar One comes with dedicated Leddar Configurator configuration software and the Leddar Enabler SDK development kit, containing libraries and examples. The code can be easily ported to any system, resulting in fast integration of the sensor in the final application.

The latest research from Lux Research indicates that automakers and technology developers are closer than ever to bringing self-driving cars to market, with basic Level 2 autonomous behaviour already coming to market, in the form of relatively modest self-driving features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and collision avoidance braking. With these initial steps, automakers are already on the road to some level of autonomy, but costs remain high in many cases. It is the higher levels

Idaho leverages the increased capability and reliability of its road weather sensor network to reduce costs and prevent accidents. Weather-related accidents can form a significant chunk of an authorities’ annual road casualty statistics. While authorities cannot control the weather, the technology exists to monitor the road conditions and react with warnings to motorists and the treatment of icy or snow-covered roads. However, with all capital expenditure now placed under the microscope of public scrutiny,
