US–headquartered 73 Iteris has increased its Vantage video detection product suite with two new products, SmartCycle and SmartSpan.

SmartCycle accurately detects vehicles and cycles with a single video detection camera facing a dedicated approach. Transportation agencies can now benefit from cycle-specific virtual detection zones that can be placed anywhere within the approaching traffic lanes.

“SmartCycle provides traffic engineers with a cost-effective way to bring their traffic management systems into compliance with new regulations that require bicycle detection,” says Abbas Mohaddes, president and CEO of Iteris.

SmartSpan enables traffic management agencies to cost-effectively deploy video vehicle detection. SmartSpan uses proprietary Dynamic Zone Stabilisation (DZS) algorithms to provide accurate advance detection and stop-bar detection of vehicles at intersections equipped with span wire mounted signal lights.

“SmartSpan offers traffic engineers a seamless way to combine the benefits of video vehicle detection, traffic data collection, and intersection surveillance for span wire equipped intersections.” says Mohaddes.

Iteris introduces SmartCycle and Vantage Vector Hybrid
Iteris is using Intertraffic to introduce two important safety innovations. The first is a new video-based bicycle detection system, SmartCycle, which the company says has the unique capability of distinguishing bicycles from other vehicles on the road in any lane. This process provides a special output that is sent to the traffic controller to extend the green time when bicycles are detected, allowing them to safely cross the intersection before the light changes. “Cycling is a way of life in Amsterd

ITS homes in on cycling safety
A new generation of ITS equipment is helping road authorities get to grips with cycle safety – and not a moment too soon as Colin Sowman discovers. Cyclists - remember them? Apparently not. At least not according to the OECD 2013 report Cycling, Health and Safety which contains the statement: ‘Cyclists are often forgotten in the design of the road traffic system’. Looking through the statistics that exist (each country appears to compile them differently) it is not difficult to see how such a conclusion cou

Major milestone for Iteris Vantage camera
Iteris has announced that it has delivered a milestone 100,000th Vantage vehicle detection camera to the traffic management industry and has been deployed by hundreds of agencies in North America, Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. The Vantage sensor system can capture and analyse video images through sophisticated algorithms, providing traffic engineers accurate vehicle detection information. Iteris says the versatility of the product enables users to apply a wide range of detection applicat
