The latest real-time interactive 3D VR simulation system from 848 Forum8 is designed to improve the way CCTV images are used, and, said the company, is suitable for monitoring traffic/pedestrian flow in real time.

VR-StreetView embeds links to the individual camera positions in an interactive 3D model of the target area. Operators can click on any one of the camera icons embedded in the model and a window will open showing live feed from the relevant camera, enabling operators to see precisely where the incident they are viewing is located within the context of the monitored area.

A new digital CCTV system from UK civil enforcement supplier Videalert for the enforcement of stopped vehicle offences has been specifically designed to reduce the incidence of stopping and parking on the zig-zag lines outside schools. Using a single camera, the Videalert system continuously monitors the restricted area and automatically zooms in to capture the number plate of any vehicle that stops during the period defined by the local traffic order, typically twice a day during the school opening and

New systems of software are coming together to form the technological backbone of a project that will apply practically to one corridor in Dallas, but influence travel across a wider area. Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is the lead agency for an extensive Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) project in Dallas, covering an area stretching north east of downtown Dallas, 20 miles long by two miles wide. The corridor is defined loosely by the US-75 freeway and DART’s light rail ‘red line’. These are the theor

Operators of public transport systems are arming themselves with sophisticated systems of technology to ward off terrorism threats to passenger safety. David Crawford reports. City transportation authorities worldwide are looking more keenly than ever for mass transit solutions to overcome traffic congestion and manage commuter flows. As they do so, concerns over passenger security are driving development of new technologies for terrorist incident detection, response and emergency passenger evacuation. The

Q-Free’s Marco Sinnema looks at how the commoditisation of high-quality vision-based solutions is widening their application. Machine vision technology’s entry into the ITS/traffic management sector has followed a classic top-down path. This is unsurprising given the extremely demanding performance criteria which are the standard in its market of origin, manufacturing processing. Very high image qualities combined with frame rates often in the hundreds per second range resulted in vision systems with capabi
