AGD’s new radar delivers multi-lane monitoring

AGD’s new multi-lane monitoring radar, the 342MM, is an FMCW radar measuring the number and speed, range and length of passing vehicles for traffic profiling and incident detection. According to AGD, the radar monitors multi-lane highways at 195 frames per second, allowing it to process up to ten times more data per vehicle than some other units, providing greater count, speed and length accuracy. 559 AGD’s new multi-lane monitoring radar, the 342MM, is an FMCW radar measuring the number and speed, range and length of passing vehicles for traffic profiling and incident detection.

According to AGD, the radar monitors multi-lane highways at 195 frames per second, allowing it to process up to ten times more data per vehicle than some other units, providing greater count, speed and length accuracy. The high frame rate is said to reduce the effects of occlusion from central reserve concrete barriers and other vehicles.

The 342MM is mounted at 45° degrees to the flow of traffic, enabling it to be mounted on cross-carriageway structures such as bridges and gantries as well as to standard or lighting columns.

    AGD upgrades traffic control radar
UK manufacturer AGD Systems has upgraded its 318 Traffic Control Radar to detect stationary and queuing traffic. The company says the solution provides a cost-effective alternative for local authorities using in-ground detection from their road networks. According to AGD, the pole-mounted solution provides virtual loop detection with speed discrimination and can emulate two inductive loops to a range of 150m or provide lane-specific detection up to 40m for a range of applications. Additionally, the

Long range radar aids wide area traffic monitoring
Applications of long range radar technology are demonstrating its effectiveness as a first line of defence for highway managers – adding greater resilience and capability to existing systems. Development efforts are bringing long range millimetric wave radar to the fore as a very useful tool for managers of highway networks. Application of radar for wide area monitoring in traffic management remains in its infancy. But recent projects are demonstrating how it can now serve to enhance detection of incidents
