Here Technologies has welcomed CustomWeather to its marketplace, providing software developers with weather data which automakers in transportation can use to improve driver safety.

The company says the Here Marketplace offers secure data exchange, essential location data and technology and an ecosystem of partners.

CustomWeather data will allow multiple industries to develop solutions on the Here platform.

For example, fleet managers in transport & logistics can plan and respond when high winds threaten to overturn vehicles or severe weather impacts driving conditions. Solar radiation data delivers insights on road temperatures and tyre wear while severe weather alerts, storm cell tracking, and real-time weather monitoring enable efficient route planning and delivery.

In the transportation industry, precision forecasting, weather alerts and storm cell tracking can be ingested by vehicle advanced drivers assistance systems via the Here Platform. Extreme temperatures and humidity impact electric vehicle battery life, making temperature forecasts an important component of range limits and anticipated recharging stops.

Jonathan Abon, vice president product management, platform at Here, says: “Location and weather data are two of the most important pieces of information in business operations. Requests for these datasets only increase as industry digitalisation and ubiquitous device connectivity reach scale.”
