Q-Free is to install 269 traffic signal controllers, including its new Intelight XN-1 and XN-2 Advanced Transportation Controllers, throughout the US state of Indiana.

Q-Free says the XN-series controllers offer OLED (organic light-emitting diode) monitor screens with readability even in direct sunlight and built-in GPS for corridor networking, coordinated operations and real-time signal timing.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (DoT) will pair the XN-1 and XN-2 with Q-Free's Intelight Maxtime software.

Intelight XN Controllers feature an open architecture platform that organises and improves traffic signal operations, the company adds.

Q-Free claims the XN Controllers are smaller and lightweight compared to competing devices, reducing the amount of equipment necessary and the space required in traffic cabinets.

They also come with an unrestricted management information bases license, allowing for complete interoperability with other traffic management devices, including those from competing manufacturers.

Q-Free partner and distributor Traffic Control Products secured the bid.
