4186 Xerox and 2133 Parkmobile have been selected to upgrade parking meter technology in the City of St Louis as part of an ongoing effort to modernise operations. The goal is to provide the city with a cost-effective on-street parking system that allows people to use cash, credit cards and mobile phones to pay for parking.

Xerox will be responsible for upgrading parking meters and software technology, while Parkmobile will be responsible for launching a smartphone app to pay for parking. During a recent six month parking technology field test, Xerox hosted the pilot site featuring single space meters, multi-space meters and smartphone payments.

"Now that we have selected the winning vendor, the next step is to change the meters at the remaining three pilot sites to the Xerox meters," said Tishaura O. Jones, treasurer of the City of St. Louis. "Changing the rest of the meters in the city will be a phased-in process based on the feedback we receive from the parking study that is currently being conducted by Desman and Associates. We look forward to work with Xerox, Parkmobile and Desman to create a first class parking operation for the City of St Louis."

The parking study is expected to be completed this fall, and the parking meter installation and smartphone app launch is expected to begin during the fall as well. The cost of this project will be around $5 million.

Xerox will be installing IPS single-space meters and Parkeon multi-space pay-stations under the new contract, with seamless backend integration into its Merge management system.

"The innovative partnership between Xerox and City of St Louis will create a more modern and convenient parking system," said Brett Peze, vice president, Parking Solutions, Xerox. "Our goal is to provide world-class technology upgrades to make it easier for people to understand, find, and pay for parking."

"Parkmobile is very excited to launch our mobile payment parking service in St Louis, another progressive thinking city," said Cherie Fuzzell, CEO of Parkmobile USA. "This technology offers customers a new and better way to pay for parking. Our mobile payment service is an example of another technology that can make our lives easier and more efficient."
