Europe, has won the bid to take over 14 car parks in the heart of
London. The company, which has promised to invest over US$16 million in
an extensive refurbishment programer, has been granted the 25-year
lease by Westminster City Council against strong competition from across
Europe. The 14 car parks provide 4,200 car parking spaces and 900
motorcycle bays.
Spain-headquartered Libelium, a specialist in wireless sensor networks, has announced the launch of its Waspmote-based Smart Parking platform, part of the company’s smart cities solution designed to be buried in parking spaces and to detect the arrival and departure of vehicles. The company says the platform, which will allow system integrators to offer comprehensive parking management solutions to city councils, will shortly be deployed in Santander, Spain.
Following a successful trial, Wellington City Council, New Zealand, in partnership with Smart Parking is set to launch Sector 1 of the city’s smart parking system.
Approximately 900 infrared parking sensors will be installed in the sector, with a further three sectors and over 2,580 sensors to be rolled out before Christmas, making it the largest deployment of the technology in Asia Pacific.
