Parking solutions provider 1774 APT Skidata has launched INS Report, a new cloud-based reporting and management information system to enable car park operators using the company’s technology to see real time intelligence on their entire portfolio.

The web-based interface has been developed to mirror data from the installed parking systems. Users can log in anywhere and at any time via a dedicated online interface/portal to see information on all their car parks, from takings and payment types to dwell time and occupancy levels. They can also monitor the volume and value of visitors within a car park who have not yet paid.

Since all of the data is stored in the cloud it can also be retrieved at a later date to compare performance across sites and monitor trends, enabling operators to take immediate decisions based on real time data, or review information subsequently to set longer-term strategies to optimise their parking portfolio.

Collecting speed and travel time data without using roadside infrastructure could offer new possibilities to cash-strapped road authorities. Streaming video may be useful for traffic controllers to monitor incidents and automatic number plate recognition may be required for enforcement, but neither are necessary for many ITS functions. For instance travel times, tailbacks, percentage of vehicles turning, origin and destination analysis can all be done using Bluetooth and/or WI-Fi sensors and without video o

The ‘value of time’ concept can be a vital decider in prioritising transport projects, as Lorenzo Casullo and Serbjeet Kohli of Steer Davies Gleave explain. How much do travellers value their time and how much would they be willing to pay for a better and faster transport option? For many years Steer Davies Gleave (SDG) has been collecting this type of information from thousands of people across the world as it researches travellers’ behaviour. And given the importance of this parameter for transport mo

Traffic management centres (TMC) have traditionally served to provide surveillance and responses to traffic incidents and recurring and non-recurring changes in road networks. Typically, a TMC collected field data from the roadway and transit infrastructure and provided the integration necessary for operators to see what was happening and then coordinate a response. Standard operating procedures (SOPs) guided operators on how to respond to a given situation. It eventually became impractical for TMC operat
