5243 Smart Signal Technologies has launched what it claims is a remarkable new product that will save taxpayers millions of dollars annually as it improves traffic signal performance along the congested signalised arterial corridors. The product, a compact device with powerful data collection and communication features, permits the gathering of high resolution data for processing into actionable real-time information to measure and monitor signal and corridor performance.

Using unique AdaptiTrol technology licensed from the 584 University of Minnesota, the company says the device costs a fraction of the cost of new controllers that are used to regulate phase changes at signalised intersections. It is NEMA compliant and is compatible with all 170/2070 and TS-1 and TS-2 controller cabinets.

  • Estimating winter road recovery time with traffic data
    February 15, 2013
In Minnesota, US, the most common measure for snow management performance is the time it takes to completely clear a roadway after a snow event ends. Currently, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) relies on visual inspections by its field crews to estimate this bare pavement recovery time. To help MnDOT more accurately and reliably estimate the performance of its snow management activities, researchers from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) have developed a prototype process that uses
