Stalker Traffic Technologies’ (7624 Stalker Radar) Phodar SE-1 photo traffic enforcement radar system has been awarded CE Marking and International Organisation of Legal Metrology certification and has been homologated in by the Latvian National Metrology Centre, qualifying the device to be quoted in any Latvian speed enforcement tender.

The SE-1 automatically monitors up to 32 vehicles moving in either direction across four lanes of traffic from any of three mounting locations. It can be deployed on the side of the roadway mounted on a utility pole, street light standard, or tripod; over the roadway on a gantry or bridge; or inside a stationary vehicle.

The SE-1 can be operated remotely via TCP/IP connection. It stores violation records internally which can be reviewed via its evidence browser mode. Violation records can be searched, reviewed, and copied to any device using its USB port, Ethernet connection, or transferred via FTP to a dedicated server. Optionally, data can be transferred via wi-fi or GSM.

ITS technology can do a great deal to improve tunnel safety, as Colin Sowman discovers. It was back in April 2004 that the European Parliament adopted the EU Directive which lays down the Minimum Safety Requirements for Tunnels in the Trans-European Road Network (2004/54/EC). This was the first unitary legislation setting minimum safety standards for European road tunnels and was designed to harmonise the management of tunnel safety at a national level. Operators of existing tunnels have until 30 April 201

Houston Radar has released its low power side-fire radar, SpeedLane. It has been designed with the intention of detecting lane, speed and class of individual vehicles and compute per-lane volume, occupancy, gap, average speed, 85th percentile and headway parameters. The device can be mounted on the side of the road for traffic data collection and works in all weather and lighting conditions. Additionally, it measures all vehicles in eight user defined lanes and all traffic measurements are on per-vehicle
