Shared mobility provider Taxistop has been renamed Mpact to avoid - the company says - having to explain that its name has "nothing to do with stopping taxis".

The Belgian firm says the new name "speaks for itself" as reflecting an "impact and a pact made for sustainable mobility".

It has been providing accessible mobility solutions for 45 years, including car-sharing and the MobiCalendar bike-share service.

Angelo Meuleman, project director at Mpact, emphasises the sociable aspects of shared mobility: “Rides are more fun when carpooling, and by using MobiCalendar, a cyclist does not only receive a cycling allowance, he also gets a chance to enjoy more time outdoors.”

Jan Klüssendorf, founder of Mpact, adds: “We have always looked for specific projects that had, and still have, the goal to use existing resources and infrastructures more efficiently. Like that, we deal more responsibly with our available resources.”

In a statement, Mpact insists: “The social aspect is therefore as important as the ecological one. Because of the current Covid situation, we are more than ever aware of what loneliness and isolation means."

The organisation has worked with a network of partners to develop services such as the Cozywheels sharing platform and the Olympus Mobility as a Service (MaaS) offering.

It also organises the annual Shared Mobility Rocks conference that focuses on innovations in the shared mobility space.
