Spin restarts operations in six US cities

Ford’s micromobility firm Spin has just resumed operations and deployed electric scooters in six US cities, including Orlando, Nashville and Salt Lake City.

The company has also extended its Everyday Heroes programme until 31 May, offering free 30-minute rides and helmets to essential healthcare workers, from doctors and lab technicians to admin staff and hospital janitors.

Spin launched the programme on 1 April, since when it says it has provided 1,000 free rides. It will decide “on potential further extensions towards the end of May”.

With staff and rider safety in mind, Spin has increased the frequency of disinfecting its scooters, and has provided employees with Ford-manufactured personal protective equipment.

Spin says it has been “working directly with cities to fill transportation gaps and deploy scooters where they are most needed”. These are: Baltimore, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco, Tampa and Washington, DC.

The other cities where it has resumed operations are Alexandria, VA; Columbus, OH; and St. Louis, MO.
