Spin moves e-scooter operations into Europe

Ford’s micromobility company Spin is to launch dockless electric scooters in Germany and is also hoping to launch in France and the UK this year.

The US firm will initially make its e-scooters available in the German city of Cologne this spring. 

Mindful of the negative headlines around some aspects of dockless micromobility, Spin insists that it works with local governments to obtain permission prior to entering new areas.
 
Euwyn Poon, co-founder at Spin, says: “We believe that community integration is integral to our long-term success. That’s why we have local teams dedicated to listening to the people in the communities we operate, gathering feedback so that we can offer the best service possible. Last year, we increased the number of US cities in which we operate by 600%.”
 
Derrick Ko, co-founder at Spin, says being part of Ford allows the company to invest in Spin charging hubs. 
 
The company says it put money into hundreds of them last year to address issues such as pavement clutter and accessibility of scooters.
 
Last August, the company acquired Journey Holding to help cities deliver more accessible transportation systems.
