Mobility app Free Now says it saw a 221% growth in the number multimodal trips in 2022, while the number of multi-mobility users was up 27%.

The figures come from the company's MaaS Report 2023, which references Free Now's 48 million users across Europe, in 10 countries and 170 cities, with multimodal journeys involving e-scooters, e-bikes, e-mopeds and car-share.

Across the continent, 73% of rides were taken by e-scooter and 27% by e-bike.

Germany-based Free Now, which is backed by the BMW Group and Mercedes-Benz Mobility, says 91% of Europeans "consider sustainable transport options more important or at the same level of importance as before the energy crisis".

The company has pledged to achieve 100% zero emissions by 2030.

In the taxi sector, Free Now partners with electric car suppliers Citroën, Marshall, Mobilize, Otto Car and Peugeot as well as with Bonnet, BP Aral, BP Pulse, EDP, Electra, Ohme, Shell and Wallbox Charging to support the transition towards EVs.

The report identifies four key trends for the year ahead, including 15-minute cities, flexible mobility spending and collaboration for green mobility.
