MaaS Global, the company behind Mobility as a Service app Whim, has announced it is to launch its MaaS offering with public transport partners in Switzerland.

Whim will enable access "to e-scooters, high-end e-bikes and all modes of public transportation (railway, tramways and trolleybuses, buses, rack railways, cableways and boat cruises)", it says.

Sampo Hietanen, CEO and founder of MaaS Global, says that Whim in Switzerland will include micromobility companies Voi, Tier and Bond.

The service will focus first on six cantons - Bern, Fribourg, Neuchâtel, Soleure, Valais and Vaud - which are home to 3.5 million people.

"Other transportation partners and new modes such as car rentals, car-share and more will follow in the coming months to provide Switzerland's 8.5 million inhabitants with an even more comprehensive Swiss-wide mobility experience," says MaaS Global.

Swiss insurance group Vaudoise Assurances invested in MaaS Global as part of a recently-announced €11 million funding round.

“This provides us with further credibility in the MaaS scene globally, strengthens our position as the industry forerunner of MaaS and gets us ready for further scaling”, says Hietanen.

Companies including Ferrovial and Tesi (Finnish Industry Investment), NordicNinja and Mitsui Fudosan were also involved in the latest funding round, bringing MaaS Global's total investment to date to €65 million.
