Lime's electric scooters and e-bikes are now available to SafeUp guardians in eight US cities, allowing them to arrive faster to women who feel unsafe when travelling.

SafeUp is a community safety network that enables women to protect one another, and guardians are women who have undergone training and can be called upon via the company’s app to provide support via telephone, video or by physical accompaniment.

SafeUp research shows nearly nine out of 10 women feel uncomfortable walking alone after dark and avoid certain activities every day to feel safer.

Lime's offering is available to these guardians for free in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Austin and Washington, DC.

Shani Raved, Lime product & operations strategy manager, says: "We want our women riders to always feel safe when they use a Lime, whether to and from public transit, or to visit friends, which is why we're so excited to be working with SafeUp. This partnership is another step towards our goal of empowering women to feel safe while travelling through cities.”

SafeUp co-founder Neta Schrieber says: “SafeUp is here in order to unite women under the common goal of mutual protection and safety. Lime is the natural partner for us to make sure that women will not avoid any activities and will not feel scared."

"Every woman needs to feel that she is in control of her destiny: walking down a dark alleyway without fear; going on a date without anxiety; dancing in a nightclub, or even simply going on a walk late at night. Lime is helping us realise our dream for women all over the world".
