Japanese 3D simulation specialist 848 Forum8 has launched its latest Drive Simulation software plug-in for its award winning interactive VR software UC-win/Road. The plug-in enables users to benefit from the improved vehicle dynamics afforded by incorporating 849 CarSim software into their overall simulator system.

CarSim, produced by Mechanical Simulation, is specialist software for simulating and analysing the behaviour of four-wheeled vehicles in response to steering, braking, and acceleration inputs. Chassis systems, tyres, and electronically controlled driver assistance systems (ADAS) are also being developed and tested in CarSim, which runs faster than real-time using ordinary PC's.

CarSim, which can simulate the dynamic behaviour of passenger cars, light trucks, racing cars, and utility vehicles, animates simulated tests and outputs over 700 calculated variables to plot and analyse, or export to other software systems, HIL systems, and optimisation tools.

    December 20, 2013
A truck safety solution developed by Volvo Trucks is said to minimise the risks posed to trucks with trailers by slippery winter roads and downhill gradients. Stretch Brake automatically retards the trailer and straightens up the rig on slippery downhill stretches. Stretch Brake is a complement to the rig’s electronic stability program (ESP), another system introduced by Volvo Trucks. While ESP is at its most effective at higher speeds, Stretch Brake is only operational at speeds below 40 km/h. Both syst

    December 5, 2016
According to a new report from IDTechEx Research, Electric Car Technology and Forecasts 2017-2027, the biggest change in cars for one hundred years is now starting. It is driven by totally new requirements and capabilities. They will cause huge new businesses to appear, but some giants will spectacularly go bankrupt. Cities will ban private cars but encourage them as autonomous taxis and rentals. Already 65 per cent of cars in China are bought by businesses. The Japanese want the car to be part of the hy

A new traffic management solution is attempting to bridge the gap in information available on freeways and arterial roadways. Andrew Bardin Williams reports. Agencies responsible for national networks of roads around the world have the ability to measure, analyse and disseminate accurate travel information to drivers. Millions of dollars go into data collection infrastructure to collect traffic congestion and travel time information on major freeways or highways. For example, a driver on the I-210 in the Lo
