Japanese 3D simulation specialist 848 Forum8 has launched its latest Drive Simulation software plug-in for its award winning interactive VR software UC-win/Road. The plug-in enables users to benefit from the improved vehicle dynamics afforded by incorporating 849 CarSim software into their overall simulator system.

CarSim, produced by Mechanical Simulation, is specialist software for simulating and analysing the behaviour of four-wheeled vehicles in response to steering, braking, and acceleration inputs. Chassis systems, tyres, and electronically controlled driver assistance systems (ADAS) are also being developed and tested in CarSim, which runs faster than real-time using ordinary PC's.

CarSim, which can simulate the dynamic behaviour of passenger cars, light trucks, racing cars, and utility vehicles, animates simulated tests and outputs over 700 calculated variables to plot and analyse, or export to other software systems, HIL systems, and optimisation tools.

Google has announced the next step in its autonomous vehicle program and is about to begin testing its new prototype self-driving vehicles on public roads. This summer, the company will move its cars from the test track to the roads with safety drivers aboard. The company has been rigorously testing the cars at its test facilities for several years. The new prototypes are based on the company’s existing fleet of self-driving Lexus RX450h SUVs, which has logged nearly a million autonomous miles and recen

Unbroken service Technolution's Winifred Roggekamp and Dave Marples describe efforts to upgrade the Westerscheldetunnel's tolling system to give free-flow capability. Until 2003 the Flanders region of Zeeland, in the south-west of the Netherlands, was connected to the mainland only by ferry. The new Westerscheldetunnel, a 6.6km toll tunnel, improves communications with the region considerably, taking some 100km off the alternative road journey. In 2006 it was recognised that the toll plaza for the tunnel ne
