Japanese 3D simulation specialist 848 Forum8 has launched its latest Drive Simulation software plug-in for its award winning interactive VR software UC-win/Road. The plug-in enables users to benefit from the improved vehicle dynamics afforded by incorporating 849 CarSim software into their overall simulator system.

CarSim, produced by Mechanical Simulation, is specialist software for simulating and analysing the behaviour of four-wheeled vehicles in response to steering, braking, and acceleration inputs. Chassis systems, tyres, and electronically controlled driver assistance systems (ADAS) are also being developed and tested in CarSim, which runs faster than real-time using ordinary PC's.

CarSim, which can simulate the dynamic behaviour of passenger cars, light trucks, racing cars, and utility vehicles, animates simulated tests and outputs over 700 calculated variables to plot and analyse, or export to other software systems, HIL systems, and optimisation tools.

EEE Innovations Oy (EEE), the Finnish Transport Agency and Trafi have launched a two-year project in the Northern European state to equip 1000 heavy traffic vehicles including buses and trucks with a data collecting system which will produce real-time road slipperiness data. The trial aims to improve traffic safety for road users, drivers and operators. This application, developed by EEE, can be implemented via a software update which reads the data from the Can-bus of the vehicle’s computer. The driver

Tammy Meehan and Thomas Hedblom of 3M consider the ongoing development of technology needed to introduce connected and autonomous vehicles. The transportation industry is in the midst of the most dramatic shift since Henry Ford introduced horseless carriages. Already we are seeing the increased use of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) which, along with the introduction of autonomous vehicles in the next few decades, will bring profound changes to vehicles and the environment in which they operate.

    June 18, 2015
Jaguar Land Rover, part of the UK Autodrive consortium, has demonstrated a remote control Range Rover Sport research vehicle, showing how a driver could drive the vehicle from outside the car via their smartphone. The smartphone app includes control of steering, accelerator and brakes as well as changing from high and low range. This would allow the driver to walk alongside the car, at a maximum speed of 4mph, to manoeuvre their car out of challenging situations safely, or even to negotiate difficult off
