Japanese 3D simulation specialist 848 Forum8 has launched its latest Drive Simulation software plug-in for its award winning interactive VR software UC-win/Road. The plug-in enables users to benefit from the improved vehicle dynamics afforded by incorporating 849 CarSim software into their overall simulator system.

CarSim, produced by Mechanical Simulation, is specialist software for simulating and analysing the behaviour of four-wheeled vehicles in response to steering, braking, and acceleration inputs. Chassis systems, tyres, and electronically controlled driver assistance systems (ADAS) are also being developed and tested in CarSim, which runs faster than real-time using ordinary PC's.

CarSim, which can simulate the dynamic behaviour of passenger cars, light trucks, racing cars, and utility vehicles, animates simulated tests and outputs over 700 calculated variables to plot and analyse, or export to other software systems, HIL systems, and optimisation tools.

In response to market demands for a better way to accurately simulate evacuation, Legion has announced its Evac software product. It can simulate and analyse evacuation scenarios for places where people gather, such as stadiums, transport hubs, office buildings, theatres and concert halls. It enables the user to simulate, test and justify ideas for improving a design before making decisions, implementing changes and spending money. Simulation results can be analysed graphically through 3D animation, colour

TomTom Telematics has launched a new smartphone app in the UK and Germany that gives drivers real-time feedback on their driving style. TomTom CURFER uses the latest developments in connected car technology from TomTom Telematics to provide drivers with visual information on how they drive – including live and retrospective feedback on their braking, cornering, acceleration and idling. The app works in conjunction with the TomTom LINK 100 dongle, which plugs into the vehicle’s OBD port to connect car

Engineers in the Ford Research and Innovation labs are developing ways to help the driver stay focused in busy situations by intelligently managing incoming communications. Data from the sensing systems of driver-assist technologies can be used to determine the amount of external demand and workload upon a driver at any given time including traffic and road conditions. In addition, Ford continues its health and wellness research with the development of a biometric seat, seat belt and steering wheel that can
