TruckWeigh and VanWeigh overload protection systems developed by 7360 Vishay Precision Group alert operators to any overload situation, allowing them to maximise their load and avoid fines while minimising the maintenance costs and safety risks of operating an overloaded truck.

TruckWeigh is specifically designed for larger-capacity vehicles up to 60 tonnes with mechanical and/or air spring suspensions while the VanWeigh system is designed for twin-axle vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes with standard coil or leaf spring suspensions. The systems utilise solid-state sensors to ensure maximum durability in harsh environments.

The company’s BulkWeigh and WasteWeigh onboard weighing systems can be equipped with three cameras and up to an additional five cameras to provide drivers with a 360-degree view.

Felix Scheuter, of Haenni Instruments, on effective highway weight enforcement
Felix Scheuter, managing director at Haenni Instruments, the renowned Switzerland-based mobile scales manufacturer, gives World Highways his views on how best to ensure effective highway weight enforcement The main danger for any road is its gradual destruction by overloaded heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). The more frequently such vehicles use a highway, the faster it is destroyed. Mobile patrol teams using mobile weighing scales are a highly effective way to enforce weight limits aimed at protecting ro

Weigh in motion technology aids overweight vehicle reduction
Innovative use of truck weighing technology is growing as strategies aimed at reducing numbers of overweight vehicles gather momentum. Business is generally good at present in the truck weighing sector in general, and weigh-in-motion (WIM) technology in particular, according to leading suppliers of systems serving to help reduce overloading. Strategies aimed at deterring excessive truck loading – cutting damage to road networks and risks to safety – vary considerably worldwide, with some governments draggin

IRD complements WIM with tyre under-inflation detection
To complement its existing WIM offering, IRD has introduced a system to detect under-inflated and flat tyres at highway speeds. Tyre inflation pressure has both safety and economic impacts for road users and none more so than with commercial vehicles. An underinflated tyre has decreased directional control, increased risk of catastrophic failure, and negatively impacts tyre life and fuel economy. In June 2014 the USDOT published Large Truck and Bus Crash Facts 2012 in which the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
