The third eCall testfest event, organised by 374 Ertico-ITS Europe and ETSI, will be held from 27 to 31 October 2014 in Vigo, Spain, hosted by CTAG in cooperation with CETECOM.

More than 30 vendors benefited from more than 300 test sessions to check the interoperability of their IVS or PSAP devices at the last test fest. With eCall now coming closer to the market, verifying the eCall chain and in particular compliance with eCall standard requirements through different tests is critical. This third eCall testfest event is a unique opportunity to check eCall implementation against other devices and eCall standards requirements.

The eCall testfest event enables vendors to run interoperability test sessions using test descriptions provided in approved guidelines. The event will bring more value with the debriefing sessions where experts can answer technical questions or solve interoperability issues. Additionally, compliancy and performance checking sessions will be scheduled to complement the interoperability tests.

eCall mandate: a cost burden for car manufacturers?
The European Parliament has mandated that all newly approved car and light-van models will have to be equipped with eCall boxes as standard fitment from 31 March 2018. eCall boxes are emergency call devices enabling rescue services to respond with faster road assistance based on knowledge of the exact location of the accident.
