Dedicated to recognising emerging talent as well as established and successful players, nominations for the 2014 6224 Telematics Update awards are now open.  Past winners include 2125 Audi, 1731 BMW, Livio Radio, 6955 WirelessCar, Tweddle, 573 TeleNav, 1623 Telogis and many more.

The twelve categories include: Best Telematics Product or Service Launch in an Emerging Market (BRIC Region); Best Insurance Telematics Product or Service Launch; Best Telematics Service provider Award; Best Telematics Content Aggregator Award;  Best Telematics Safety and Security Technology Award; and others.

The deadline for nominations is Friday 14 March.     A self-driving bus trial in the Austrian capital Vienna has been halted after a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian, says Bloomberg. Authorities are now investing the cause of the incident which led to minor injuries. According to Bloomberg, state broadcaster ORF says the Navya vehicle was driving at 7.5 miles per hour when it hit the 30-year-old woman in the knee.   • An analysis of real-world crashes involving self-driving vehicles

    A study by the University of Michigan performed a preliminary analysis of the cumulative on-road safety record of self-driving vehicles for three of the ten companies that are currently approved for such vehicle testing in California (Google, Delphi, and Audi). The analysis compared the safety record of these vehicles with the safety record of all conventional vehicles in the US for 2013 (adjusted for underreporting of crashes that do not involve a fatality).
