Driver assisted truck platooning, enabled by V2V communications, offers substantial fuel economy and safety benefits for long haul trucking.  A project started in 2013 under the 831 Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Exploratory Advanced Research program has funded 2006 Auburn University, Peloton, Peterbilt Trucks, Meritor-4319 Wabco, and the 5478 American Transportation Research Institute to investigate technical performance and the practical aspects of integrating this type of system into a modern trucking operation.

This webinar will provide an overview of the project, results to date, and future plans.

The demonstration will show its use in an ITS system for tracking and tracing operational tankers transporting hydrocarbon in Europe.

    An autonomous car operated by Uber has killed a pedestrian in what is believed to be the first death of its kind, in a report by The Independent. The vehicle, according to Tempe Police, was driving in autonomous mode as part of the company’s North America tests that included an operator behind the wheel that was not in control at the time of the incident. Uber Technologies has suspended all of its driverless car tests in Phoenix and Arizona as well as Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Toronto.
  • Tritium receives US funding to make cheaper ultra-fast EV charger

    Tritium will use $400,000 in US funding to develop a cheaper version of its Veefil-PK ultra-fast charger for electric vehicles (EVs). The fund is part of the Electric Power Research Institute's (EPRI) $3.2m package, issued by the US Department of Energy (DoE), to develop a fast charging system which will connect to the grid. Once complete, the plug-in system is expected to reduce the impact on the grid and charge multiple EVs quickly. Mark McGranaghan, EPRI vice president of integrated grid, says: “Our
