Vehicle and Road Automation website launched

The EU funded VRA project is a collaboration network of experts and stakeholders working on deployment of automated vehicles and its related infrastructure. The project acts as the interface between EC funded projects, international relations and national activities on vehicle and road automation.  It aims to maintain an active European network of experts and stakeholders, to contribute to the EU-US-Japan international collaboration on vehicle and road automation, to identify deployment needs for the different domains of vehicle and road automation and to promote European research on vehicle and road automation.

    Norwegian company SafeRoad will use Intertraffic Amsterdam 2014 to present SafeEnd, a new generation of energy absorbing end terminals, developed and tested according to the ENV 1317-4 and prEN 1317-7 standards. Features of the product are fast and easy installation, narrow width to allow usage at places with limited space, and low weight.     Swedish company MetSense will be at Intertraffic Amsterdam to highlight its complete sensor solutions for winter road maintenance, and will present MetSense 2DRoad, a multi-pixel camera system for detection of road status in two dimensions. When installed on a road weather station, the camera system can offer a visual image of one or several lanes of road with a semi-transparent overlay of current road condition, such as dry, wet, ice, or snow, in thousands of points on the road surface.

    The SmartCycle software upgrade to the entire Vantage family discriminately detects bicycles anywhere in a VIDS’ field of view while simultaneously providing “regular” detection of all other vehicles in the same unit. The separate bike only detection output enables enhanced safety for cyclists and signalised intersection efficiency - longer passage times are granted only when a bike is detected.
