The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) has developed a new fact sheet to encourage planning agencies to consider how their local transportation systems will function in a connected vehicle environment.

The 324 US Department of Transportation (USDOT) has developed a new fact sheet to encourage planning agencies to consider how their local transportation systems will function in a connected vehicle environment.
The Planning for the Future of Transportation: Connected Vehicles and ITS fact sheet provides a quick overview of the ITS Joint Program Office's connected vehicle research activities and highlights key elements of performance-based planning and programming (PBPP) that present opportunities for addressing this connected vehicle environment.
These PBPP elements include: Strategic direction (Where do we want to go?); Planning analysis (How are we going to get there?); Programming (What will it take?); Implementation and Evaluation (How did we do?).

Australia’s National Electronic Tolling Forum (NeTC) 2016, hosted by ITS Australia, takes place in Brisbane on 25 and 26 May 2016. The program committee is now inviting speakers to submit abstracts for consideration for presentation.

Bosch has received an automated driving system (ADS) permit from the Victorian government to test automated vehicle technology on high-speed rural roads in the south-eastern Australian state.
Bosch is to use a $2.3 million grant from the Connected and Automated Vehicle (C/AV) Trial Grants Programme to develop the technology, which will be tested later this year.

Finnish company Noptel plans to highlight its laser distance sensors used for traffic control at the World Congress. It will particularly be focusing on its Speeder X1 laser radar, which determines vehicle speed as well as its height and length.
Network Rail has contracted Siemens Rail Automation to install European Train Control System (ETCS) in-cab signalling on 750 of the UK's heaviest locomotives to improve safety and provide better use of the network with plans to retrofit the entire fleet in 2022. This technology forms part of the country's Digital Railway programme, and the government has invested £450m ($602m) as part of its National Productivity Fund. For the first phase, Siemens will install its Trainguard 200 (T200) ETCS on-board
