UK ITS provider, 604 Vysionics, has gone live with a pilot deployment of an asset and maintenance management system utilising Loc8.com Service Provider edition  software on Motion Computing’s Motion F5 tablet PC.

Vysionics handles around 300 service visits per month, from incident response and scheduled maintenance to installations throughout average speed enforcement, automatic number plate recognition solutions and other civil traffic enforcement solutions.

Maintenance management was previously carried out by Vysionics’ mobile workforce using a mixture of manual processes and email using laptops, digital cameras and barcode scanners to complete job reports and update critical documentation, often a cumbersome and complex operation.

By consolidating all the necessary hardware onto one device and combining with Loc8.com’s real time asset and maintenance management functionality, the Motion F5 will enable a complete mobile office solution.  Engineers will use the F5’s barcode scanner to reference a complete site history, assets and prior maintenance activity within Loc8.com, as well as populating task outcomes, updating timesheets, spare parts and inventory, to ensure accurate billing.

GPS and barcode scanning functionality built into the F5 is critical will enable engineers to coordinate the site location, while the Vysionics back office team will be able to plot the location of resources versus work orders in real time using the F5’s GPS and Loc8.com’s spatial data capabilities.

The integrated camera will enable engineers to photograph installations and add annotations for assets involved as well as provide a comprehensive visual record of the work carried out.

The Loc8.com software will enable dynamic job delivery direct to field based resources, as well as tracking and scheduling enhanced with mapping and spatial data.  In addition, the Loc8.com asset management capabilities will enable Vysionics to track and ensure the optimal use of any given asset.

Wider uses for weigh in motion data
Colin Sowman talks to Terry Bergan of International Road Dynamics about the latest uses of weigh-in-motion systems. Raising allowable truck weight limits improve transport efficiency but leaves an ever-increasing number of bridges vulnerable to being overloaded and damaged by vehicles heavier, and in some cases far heavier, than they were designed to carry. The simplistic solution is to impose weight restrictions and erect appropriate signs - but this could have severe knock-on effect on trucking operations
